A healthy breath is a flexible breath, appropriate to whatever activity you are engaging in at that specific moment. If you are lying down sleeping then a healthy breath will mirror this by being gentle and deep in the belly. If on the other hand you are running or in a moment of stress, the breath is likely to be higher in the chest and faster. Our bodies know, but unfortunately with the level of stress in todays life style the majority of people no longer have a truly flexible and healthy breath.
